"It's The End Of The World As We Know It"....BUT I FEEL FINE!

The same old story recycled every since I was a boy and first started reading the newspapers in the late 1950s "The Dark Forces Are Just About Ready To Takeover The World!" Then…somehow..from nowhere…the metaphor of rescue from a hopeless battle The Cavalry Charges Over The Hill with Flags Flying And Bugles Blowing And Saves The Day!

My point being, and one I’ve made often in the past, as well as others-- Western Civilization is a tough old bird that has survived the worst the Barbarians have thrown at it for over 2,500 years. It is no longer a few gallant Greek city-states living under the shadow of the mighty Persian Empire. It is a considerable number of proud, independent freedom loving countries that span the world..Indeed, Western Civilization has become the World Civilization. It is the Civilization of high technology and free markets that its major rival Islam cannot hope to match and will likely be doomed to destruction before the end of the 21st Century.

Yes, today Civilization is under heavy attack from within and without, and there are many good reasons for concern, and never should we pause for a moment in our hammer blows against the Armies Of The Night until they are beaten down into ashes and the ashes burned; however, we should never forget that Civilization has faced worse in its day and not only survived — It has moved forward to greater and greater glory. This glory is reflected today in the two giants in Asia moving towards the Light of Freedom — India and China — Albeit a slow advance towards Capitalism, Christianity and the Rights Of Man.

As an American I’m proud of my country and its contribution to liberty, but I’m ever mindful that America stood on the shoulders of giants like Greece, Rome and Britain. America is not a new country in the annals of Civilization. In fact, America is ancient nation whose real Founding Father was Aristotle “The Master Of Them That Know” — The Father Of Reason, Logic And Political Science. America is not the end game for Civilization. This nation is a bridge between the glory of the past and the greater glory of the future. The American bridge will sooner or later disappear into the sands of times, as is the fate of all nations and individuals, but only after the human race has successfully crossed over the river and is rested in the trees.

At a future date, perhaps 500 years from now, most of us living today will be forgotten dust; however, what we do in this generation will never be forgotten: These are days of glory and high adventure that will become the stuff of history and legend. In this way today's Freedom Fighters will become the immortal 300 Spartans; the Charge Of The Light Brigade; Custer's Last Stand and numbered among all those countless heroes living and death who held the thin red line against the Armies Of The Night one minute past midnight and died defending Liberty to the last drop of blood.

This old soldier is honored to be standing in the infantry line on the battlefield of the World Wide Web with the heroic Freedom Fighters of Civilization whose motto is, "They Shall Not Pass!"
