Luxury hotel bookings have declined across the United States following the so-called "AIG effect".

The term refers to the bad publicity surrounding insurance giant AIG's decision to fly executives to another resort in California after being offered bail-out money by the US government.

A Ritz-Carlton spokeswoman, Vivian Deuschl, said: "The whole demonisation of luxury meetings and companies pulling back on having their high-end meetings in luxury hotels – this has had a tremendous impact on Las Vegas.

"I can't think of another destination that has had to defend itself more against comments from Obama."

"Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co will close its five-diamond property in Las Vegas this May, after the hotel struggled with a slide in demand and revenue. 'It's nothing the hotel did. It's a simple lack of business and a decline in the tourism industry,' said Ritz-Carlton spokeswoman Vivian Deuschl." Now, how many jobs did Obama create or save with the closing the Ritz-Carlton in Los Angeles? How many jobs created or saved? So here you have another rich profiteering business closed. Congratulations, Mr. President, that class warfare stuff is really great. Now, what of all the employees there? What do you have in store for those employees, 99 weeks of unemployment compensation? Benefits? Another Vegas hotel shutting down, and Obama has said three or four times, don't go to Vegas.
