HILLSBOROUGH -- Federal stimulus money has helped repair a “bridge to nowhere” in this western town.
Recovery.gov, the government website that tracks stimulus spending, says the 19th century stone bridge in Hillsborough was being preserved and resurfaced to “better accommodate pedestrians and bicycles.”
The old bridge, however, ends in a field with an 8-foot drop.
More than $150,000 from the federal stimulus bill was awarded for the project.
Town Administrator John Stetser tells The New Hampshire Union Leader the bridge was close to crumbling.
He adds that the federal aid covers only part of the $270,000 revitalization project approved by voters at a town meeting. A park and information kiosk are also planned for the site.
