Rush Limbaugh devoted a portion of his Friday show dismissing the rape allegations against comedian and television personality Bill Cosby, stating the media is going after Cosby because he has admonished black families and communities to “step up” in the past, with Limbaugh saying of the rape allegations, “It’s not like he did it yesterday.”
Accusations that Cosby sexually assaulted women have been made by multiple women since 2004, but the story caught fire in recent days when actress Barbara Bowman came forward and wrote an op-ed piece published in The Washington Post, stating she was drugged and sexually assaulted by Cosby when she was in her late teens and early 20′s.
Discussing Bowman’s appearance today on CNN with Don Lemon, Limbaugh claimed the media is trying to “destroy” Cosby by airing the allegations, in audio captured by Media Matters for America.
“It looks like they’re trying to destroy Bill Cosby. Apparently a woman has come forward, or came forward some time ago, claiming he raped her, numerous times. And she has been on CNN today repeating the story and CNN has decided to adopt this story and make it the number one cause célèbre of the day, ” he said. ” And they’ve got experts left and right testifying on what it all means and why it happened and what could it mean to Cosby’s reputation.”
“And I asked myself, what did Bill Cosby ever do to tick off some producer at CNN? Or some reporter? Or some assignment? What happened here?” Limbaugh continued. “And then I had to stop and remember, Bill Cosby has numerous times in the recent past given public lectures in which he has said to one degree or another that black families and communities had better step up and get hold of themselves and not fall prey to the forces of destruction that rip them apart. And basically he started demanding that people start accepting responsibility. And the next thing you know he is the nation’s biggest rapist as far as CNN is concerned.”
Limbaugh later added, “It’s not like he did it yesterday. It’s age old stuff, right? Twenty years ago…thirty years ago. That’s right. The stuff that being alleged was back when he was the lovable Mr. Huxtable and had the deal, perfect TV family, on the ideal perfect TV show.” ---RAW STORY
