Seth Shope said he was attacked with brass knuckles, causing a brain bleed and fractures to his cheekbone, nose and skull. He was taken by CareFlight from Springfield Regional Medical Center late Saturday night to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where tonight he is listed in stable condition.
His wife, Rachel Shope, said she is more horrified now than she was during her husband's five tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The family tells us they are working with Springfield police to find Shope's attackers, who are still on the loose.
Springfield police Sgt. Doug Pergram said officers were called to Springfield Regional Medical Center. Police are looking for two large black males. He said the incident remains under investigation.
