Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, a Democrat, will stay in custody. It was a circus in Ashland today, as media, and protesters on both sides of the Kim Davis controversy came nose-to-nose outside the courthouse. Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis appeared before U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning at 11:00 this morning, Bunning had her taken into custody finding her in contempt for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples. Bunning told Davis that she would remain in jail until she complied with his order. Davis said “thank you” and was taken from the courtroom by a U.S. Marshal. Davis was not taken out in handcuffs. Judge Bunning then called Mrs. Davis’ six deputies into the courtroom, they were told they were free to issue licenses to all applicants while Davis was held in contempt, but if they did not comply they too would face fines or jail time. Five of the six clerks said they would issue the licenses, the only one to hold out was Mrs. Davis’ son Nathan. Judge Bunning was not done with Davis though, calling her back into court at 3:30 this afternoon, but Davis did not come. Instead she stayed in custody, her attorney appearing before the judge to tell him that she would not allow any employee to issue licenses in her absence. Judge Bunning says he will keep Davis in jail for at least a week, and said “I hope that everyone will remain civil. This country has always had disagreements, but what makes this country different from other countries is that we respect the rule of law.”

Lying SOS. How dare he claim we “respect the rule of law” when the SCOTUS clearly does not.
He wants everyone to remain civil. Oh yeah. Sure. A big ol’ dose of CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE is what is needed here.
Methinks your cynicism knob is glued to max.
....for that matter, a night in jail isn’t either
Not for seven years, judge.
her attorney appearing before the judge to tell him that she would not allow any employee to issue licenses in her absence.
Not sure where a Federal Judge gets the authority to designate himself as acting-County Clerk in the Clerk's absence.
The people he's really screwing with here are the deputy clerks. The Clerk can't be fired because she's an elected official. But I'm sure she can fire her deputies for things like insubordination.
At MOST, Kentucky statute was annulled. Now they have no law authorizing marriage.
Ping me if one comes up!
Good Nazis. Go along or you could be next.
Except for immigration laws.
I would’ve thought that by this time anyone would be allowed to break any kind of a law since very serious crimes are committed by the illegal invaders and nothing happens to them.
The POTUS does not respect the rule of law.
He could yet repent, but whether that happens in the present context is unknown.
Tells me all I need to know about where you are coming from.
