I suppose there is a small victory in outliving the Secret Service agent who railroaded me into a four year prison sentence on the basis of perjury and other high crimes.

A memorial service will be held at Friday, February 24, 2017 at Jones Funeral home of Swansboro at 6:00 PM. The family will receive friends following this service at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Mildred Catholic Church in Swansboro with Father Don Baribeau officiating.
John graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a BA in Criminal Justice in 1975, Afterwards he embarked on a 38 year career in federal law enforcement including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, US Secret Service as a Senior Special Agent and Assistant Federal Security Director with Transportation Security Administration. His career in the US Secret Service included presidential protective detail for former President’s Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush, Sr. Throughout John’s life he was a faithful Miami Dolphins fan, music lover and enjoyed the great outdoors to include fishing, boating, hunting, and camping. In John’s retirement you would find him, better known as “Papa John”, spending time with his grandchildren and attending their dance recitals, soccer tournaments and horse shows. John enjoyed life to the fullest and especially valued friendships and family. John will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
He is survived by wife, Melanie McKenna; stepson, Brandon Farley; daughters, Erin Wax (Nathan) and Bridgete Alfonso (Jeffrey); granddaughter, Pia Martin; grandsons, John, Justin and Mark Wax and one grandbaby on the way. He is also survived by sisters, Kathleen Bond, Joanne Fay, Mary Del Valle and Patricia Gluck; brother, Timothy McKenna.
